Amo / 2018
Acrylic on Canvas
This is my friend Amo. This is also the last painting I ever did (so far!).
Coming into college, I wanted to be a hyperrealistic portrait painter.
It was all I did in high school, and in my mind, that was the absolute peak of art.
But after a semester in NYU, my horizon on what art was expanded rapidly.
I decided I wanted my practice to be more socially focused, and I pivoted into exploring other forms of art, eventually landing on design.
I knew I would probably never paint portraits again, even though technically, I could, but the desire has vanished.
I wanted to indulge one more time, and so I painted Amo. Afterwards, I gave this painting to her, and gave away all my paint supplies. I'm happy.
