VIBRATIONS
By Tina Zhou
As I sit in by my window in Providence, Rhode Island, I wonder, how do we create in times of war? We occupy the same planet, share the same sky, yet it is two sharply distinct worlds we live in.
Vibrations is a typeface inspired by the antagonistic force between flying entities that inhabit our skies: fiery roar of fighter jets, nonstop humming of surveillance drones, missiles, rockets, bombs; at the same time, trills of song birds, drumming chatter of woodpeckers, coos, murmurs, trumpets in unison.
Here, the mechanical and the organic coalesce. I wish to gesture at the violence we place onto the planet, and ultimately, each other.

The all caps part of Vibrations is a modified revival of the Electric Circus typeface (also appears as Electus, Double Vision), a custom alphabet likely based on Anzeigen-Grotesk/Neue Aurora IX.
Electric Circus was initially designed by Chermayfeff & Geismar for Electric Circus nightclub, which was located at 19-25 St.Marks Place in East Village, New York.
